Salad leaves and other salad crops are simple to grow and the former can be harvested all year round. They do not need to be part of the vegetable rotation, so can be grown in the same place every year. A 1.2 metre square or 1.2 metres by 2.4 metres long ground based or table bed can be very poroductive on its own and many salad crops have colourful foliage as well as tasting wonderful if eaten immediately after picking.
